10 Reasons for Athletic Performance Training

1) Speed and Agility Training: When you talk about sports and what separates athletes from one another, it’s one thing.
10 Reasons for Athletic Performance Training

Speed!

1) Speed and Agility Training: When you talk about sports and what separates athletes from one another, it’s one thing. Speed and as they say: “speed kills, and speed thrills.” Because sports are unpredictable you must be explosive but also provide multi directional speed during the fast-paced CHAOS that sports bring! It’s not just about linear speed (straight-ahead); it’s about the split second changes of direction that you need to access! The time is now, don’t be the slow athlete that stays on the bench – Be explosive, make the plays, make a difference!!

2) Maximum Endurance – Prepare yourself to become a conditioned performance machine. KNOWING that at the end of the game, there is absolutely no way YOU will run out of gas. That feeling of being bent over winded and hoping that the referee will blow the whistle, cannot enter your mind. Don’t be that athlete. We will help!!

3) Flexibility: Muscles work best when they have balance in tension throughout the body. We call it optimal “length-tension relationship.” Any imbalances in tension of muscles can result in reduced force output, a reduction in strength, flexibility, speed and endurance as well as serious injury.

4) Postural and Control: Mom was right. Stand up straight! Posture is defined as the position where movements initiate from. Many athletes exhibit postural imbalances having rounded shoulders and forward head alignment. When posture is not optimal, you are not in a position of strength thereby resulting in reduced force production (acceleration)and reduction (deceleration). Our athletes work on correcting postural issues to provide a solid foundation of movement and performance.

5) Muscle imbalance correction: The body is a system of linked muscles, bones and joints; we consider it a “whole” unit, not just a series of muscles. The term Kinetic Chain is what we use and it applies to all athletes. One link out of alignment and the “whole” does not perform at its highest. The phrase “you are only as strong as the weakest link” is so true when you’re an athlete. Eliminate the weak links and outperform your competition!

6) Proper Progression: Your results should be planned, they should not happen by accident. In order to provide continuous feedback to the body, your body will progress based on the training stimulus it has received. It is nothing more than delivering optimal performance when you need it. Consistent commitment to bettering yourself leads to progress!

7) Optimal Body Composition. Increase your muscle mass and lower your bodyfat to deliver a body that can perform as good as it looks! Less bodyfat plus added strength, flexibility and power and you become faster, period!

Are your Ready?

Strength: When all else is equal, the stronger athlete most of the time is victorious. The key is to develop the “real world” strength that the athlete can actually use in sport, on the field and in competition, not just in the gym. You must be able to transfer the strength in the gym to the field, court or ice.

9) Injury prevention and career longevity: A solid, physical and mental preparation program will drastically reduce all injuries, increase performances and lengthen careers. The scientifically prepared athlete can perform on the field because you will be more resistant to injury. Science has proven it and a well-written and performed program will help.

10) Recovery Enhancement and Nutritional support. If we can recover faster, we can train harder and be in position for success more often. The body does not respond merely to training – it responds to “recovery FROM training.” The bottom line: Train smart, Train Hard, Get Sleep, Eat Right, Hydrate and Stretch often in between sessions. Stronger, healthier athletes win more often, and stay at a high level of performance many more years than do their improperly trained opponents.

11) BONUS – SKILL DEVELOPMENT – Many athletes today go to skill coaches and while there is nothing wrong with this, it is very important to utilize your skills better. How? Get in shape, period! Better Balance, Core strength, Coordination, Strength, Flexibility, Endurance Speed and your skills will shine even more above your competition !!

Building a Successful Team

As a coach of today’s sports teams, success comes from more than just technically skilled players. A superior team must be a strong, fast, and flexible, maintain an unyielding mental attitude and have a solid nutrition plan. At the Center for Athletic Performance (CAP), we have train hundreds of athletes and Teams from New Jersey High Schools, AAU, Travel, and Rec programs for the last 10 years.

The Team Training Concept:

Nowadays, it’s not just about x’s and o’s if you want to be successful as a team. You need to have more of what it takes to succeed. Those critical factors are the following: Team speed, strength, quickness, agility, reaction, power, nutrition, skills, mental and physical toughness! To illustrate this, CAP offers an affordable guaranteed successful Team Training Program.

With this in mind, as coaches you must realize your team’s areas of weakness and address them.
A Few Factors of TEAM Speed:

1. Speed is a Skill –

Yes. It can be taught. For simplistic reasons, I will put agility, quickness, change of direction in this category as well. Developing elite speed, or any speed for that matter, is a skill. Coordinating the upper and lower body through the core takes coordination. This is why the Olympic Sprinters practice technique of arm action, knee drive, acceleration, top-end speed, recovery etc. Training your nervous system to repeat good technique takes practice to master the skill. What position should your body be in when accelerating, decelerating, planting to go in another direction is often overlooked or not addressed at all. These areas can be taught, learned and then expressed on the field of play. CAP teaches these techniques to enhance your team’s ability to move better and increase their chance of success!

2. Speed comes from Strength –

A highly neglected area of training is called the Posterior Chain (glutes, hamstrings, low back). This area, along with the core (abs/obliques/low back ), as I like to describe, is the engine of your body. If the engine is strong and fast, your team has the potential to move with power and precision. If it is not, the team is not only going to perform inadequately, but also be at risk for injury. CAP teaches your team to perform exercises that will develop this area such as Squats, Romanian Deadlifts, Various Lunges, Sport-specific Step-Ups, Sled work etc. We also do Strongman Training that flat out builds powerful strength and dominating speed for your athletes. This “warrior” type training will get your team excited about training more than just upper body and you will be moving ahead of your competition.

3. Speed comes from Hip Flexibility –

Another neglected area and often misunderstood area of speed comes from flexibility of an athlete’s hips. It is important to improve your Team’s hip separation for improved stride length and stride frequency. Maximizing a good strength and flexibility ratio of the Hip Flexors and the Glutes will enhance your team’s speed. When you want to prepare as a team, it must be a well rounded program that is put into place. Flexibility of the Hips in combination with a strong and stable core will develop better athletes period.

At CAP our Team Training Program will guarantee that your athletes will move better for your upcoming season. Don’t hesitate and call us today and help prepare your team!
